Don't bother with Dell

I purchased a monitor from Dell on Friday. 2 days later I got a poorly written email from them saying my order had been cancelled due to a 'price error'.

They handled it very unprofessionally and my reputation for this company has dropped to non-existent.

Terrible

I purchased a Dell monitor and payment was made. Dell waited a few days and sent me an email saying the order was cancelled.

Useless

Don't bother paying for premium warranty (or any warranty). The service is completely useless. Expect different answers from all of their technicians, and to receive your computer back still broken (with the exact same problems you sent it in for in the first place).

Dell Support is simply terrible.

Dell Support is simply terrible.
They just follow a script of what to do next, reinstall drivers, reinstall applications, reinstall OS (!!) (Twice) without actually trying to understand what the problem is.
I had two issues
One was that the 3.5mm jack on my new Dell did not work. As mentioned, they had me reinstall drivers, audio software and yes, even the OS. Nothing fixed it. They even replaced the motherboard with a new one and when the tech left and the computer was restarted, it was DEAD. So, another motherboard replacement.
After nothing worked, they were kind enough to replace the system with a refurbished one 4 months after purchasing a brand new computer and dealing with support for a few months. They did not even replace it with a new computer. Even on the replacement the 3.5mm jack does not work. I bought a USB headset and solved the problem differently. My Bose headphones will just have to be put away in a closet.
2nd issue was text jumping up and in MS Outlook, again after reinstalling software they wanted to again reinstall the OS. I said no.
The amount of time that I have spent and the loss of productivity is immeasurable.
Lack of thought and initiative to actually solve something, and definitely looking out for the bottom line when it comes to replacing a system with one that actually works.
I hope saving some money on this one computer was worth it to Dell because they lost a customer for life

Deserves a zero stars!

If I could give a 0 stars it would be fair. After a week of "shipped early" my monitor didn't even show up on the courier site. Customer support is useless and obnoxious. Won't recommend and will go elsewhere next time.

Awful! Avoid if at all Possible

Awful!
Ordered 2 XPS13 at £3,000. First one arrived slightly damaged, packaging intact but the bottom of the XPS had a dozen or more pinprick sized “stab” marks.
40 minutes of “chat” with a “support” agent - demanding photos of the damage - via their system which only allows 1 photo at a time and less than 5Mb. Then they email wanting photos of “all 4 sides of the box”. Last time I checked, a box had 6 sides.

I just do not have time to spend my time fixing their problems, so I have rejected the goods, as I can under the distance selling regulations, told them to collect, cancelled the outstanding order and put the card transaction on dispute.

It should not be this hard to buy a laptop - may the good lord help those who have a problem with anything from Dell!!

Matebook I think…..

Dell customer service is beyond inept

Dell customer service is beyond inept. You'll receive a different answer with totally different information entirely dependent upon who you speak with. Dell's products are hit or miss, but relying on Dell's customer service (or warranties for that matter) are foolish as from one Dell Customer Service Rep to another the level of their knowledge varies significantly, and when a Dell Customer Service Rep doesn't know something they seemingly make up an answer and provide that instead of determining what's factual or consulting someone who knows.

Huge Order Delay

I ordered a charging case for my earpiece 2 weeks ago and just now got the email apologizing for its delay, only to be told it would be arriving next month.

All I got was an automated apology and a sick feeling to the gut.

Don not buy Dell refurbished computers

My company purchased a Dell refurbished XPS 8940. It was delivered quickly but we noticed it had issues out of the box. The OS would load normally and suddenly freeze and then a black screen before spontaneously restarting. I spend several hours on tech support to hear that I have to wipe it and reinstall Windows. Done, then the same issue reappeared. They said just send it back and they could get me another computer in 3 months... Better yet just return it and buy another one.... This was the limit of the help I received. I was left to figure it out or do without. I did figure it out after several more hours. Dell's installed Invidia drivers conflicted with the video card causing the issue. I removed all the drivers then reinstalled the correct ones straight from Invidia. Problem solved, but I still had trust issues, so I decided to run "BurnIn" to make sure the computer was working correctly. Twelve seconds in it fails thermal on the CPU and throttles back. I look inside and there is a tiny heatsink with a small fan on top of the CPU. I touched it and it was not even warm. I did more research to find that it should have a large heat sink with integral fan. I ordered one with some thermal paste to install it. When it arrived, I went to install it and found two of the four attachment screws were completely not being used on the small factory heatsink, upon removal there was no thermal paste. I installed the new heatsink with thermal paste and all works as advertised. So over 12 hours and $120.00 dollars to get a computer to work that should have come in that way. Who compensates the customer for the work it takes to get a new computer to work?

Answer This Question

Q:

How is Dell's Premium Support Services? Are they worth it?

A:

Not upto the mark... felt few hadrware technician are newly appointed were not ble to understand as well as answer the query.

by Perkins431 - July 14, 2021

A:

I personally wouldn't buy another computer without the support services. I'm pretty tech savvy, but having the premium services means an extended warranty. If you end up with hardware issues it's WELL worth the added coverage.

by Matthews150 - December 29, 2019

A:

Warranty just repairs until you are out of warranty time, then they send you to " Out of Warranty" to get more of your money.

Q:

Has any customer who purchased a Dell computer online returned a Dell computer to Dell.com successfully?

A:

I did. I bought a machine that had hardware issues right out of the box and returned it within the 30-day window. They refunded me 100% of what I'd paid, no problem.

by Jon H. - December 29, 2019

A:

Don't buy a dell. Buy a Mac or hp. Dell is a waste of money

by Felicia68 - March 21, 2019

A:

I have. I found it to be rather easy providing you ship back within the allowed period which I believe to be 30 days. They provide shipping return labels and you send everything back in the original boxes.
